Purpose Statement
The purpose of this Local Union, from the President, Mr. Timothy Hogan, it's officers and business agents is to grow this Local Union, to bargain and negotiate all wages, hours and working conditions, to ensure a proper grievance procedure, to protect the seniority of its members, to make sure the members work in a safe environment, and non-discriminatory work place. In short, to give its members a voice on the job so they can have some say in their future.
Here at Local 182 we are committed to making certain you have representation to answer questions you may have on your contract, company work rules, National Labor Relations Act for private sector and Taylor Law for public sector employees. The president of our local has the right to appoint a shop steward at your facility, or if he decides can let the members have an election. The steward is responsible for reporting any issues or concerns to his/her business agent of that unit. The business agent will be appointed by the president. The steward has the right to investigate and process all grievances and in many cases settle the matter before it reaches the written grievance stage.
We at Local 182 believe in educating and empowering our members so they know their rights as members and can feel comfortable resolving their issues themselves. This president and his administration believes in formulating a committee to negotiate your contracts, so the membership can be kept informed on where things stand and have more trust in the process knowing one of your own is sitting at the negotiating table looking out for your best interests. We have been extremely successful with this approach so far. To keep our members informed, we have a monthly meeting which is held on the first Wednesday of the month at the Central New York Labor Agency (287 Genesee St. - Suite 201), Utica, NY. We urge all members to attend so you can meet your brothers and sisters affiliated with the Local and hear about issues that concern us all from the local to the national level.
Having said all of this, we don't promise or guarantee that you will receive certain items in your contract, that you will agree with every decision made for you or on the units behalf, or that we won't make mistakes. What we will promise you, however, we will be upfront with you, honest and represent you to the best of our ability.
We feel that being a member of the Teamster Organization is an honor and privilege that every member, both new and old, should be proud of.
Fraternally yours,
Tim Hogan, President/PEO
